Abby's Birthday Party

Today we got to help Abby celebrate her 1st birthday. Megan and Lucas got to hang out with some of Megan's friends from school. Megan also enjoyed playing with the finger puppets Abby gave out at her party.

#2 on the Potty

At first, I couldn't believe my ears ... "I'm going to poop. I'm going to go on the potty.". Well let's go! So Lucas did just that. No persuading, no pleading ... he just wanted to do it. Not only did he ask to do it, but it was the very first time he pooped on the potty. We are very proud of our little man. He even got the reward he was promised ... 3 stickers! And he was very excited about those stickers. He was proud enough of himself that he plans to tell all his teachers (and Carl, of course) when he sees them in the morning.

Lucas's First Day of Preschool

We are extremely proud of how well Lucas did his first day. We dropped off Megan, then went to find Lucas's new room.

So many kids transitioned that day (including 9/12 from Lucas's old room) that the center tried to do something different and fun for the kids. At the front door, each child got a symbol that matched the symbol from their room. They then followed the same symbol on the floor until they got to their new room. Lucas got to follow the moons back to the Hubble room.

Once in his new room, Lucas was greeted by his friend Ben with "Yea! Lucas!". Who wouldn't like to be greeted like that every morning? After saying hi to some of his friends, Lucas found his new cubbie, put his stuff away and washed his hands. The only sketchy moment was when he went to sit down for breakfast and all the bagels had cream cheese on them. After asking Ms. Tiffany for a plain bagel, he was good to go. "Bye, Mommy! Bye, Daddy!", and off we went. Awesome (and quite unlike his last transition when he cried every time he was dropped off for well over a week).

A Day Out With Thomas

Today we visited the Illinois Railway Museum where Thomas the Tank Engine was visiting for the weekend. We got to meet Sir Topham Hatt, take a 20 minute ride with Thomas, see a miniature train set and see lots of trains. Lucas even got a Thomas tattoo which we made sure not to wash off for his first day of preschool.

On to Preschool

Today was Lucas's last day with Ms. Stacy and Mr. Jeff. Next week he moves on to preschool. He's growing up so fast! Let's hope the transition goes well! His new teachers will be Ms. Tiffany and Ms. Eula. We visited his new classroom several times over the last couple of weeks and he seemed to like it. Hopefully it helps that several of his friends are moving with him at the same time.

Because ...

"Because the sky's not red, it's blue."
I don't even know what we were talking about ... not anything outside, not the sky, not colors ... but that was Lucas's response. "Because" is the beginning of many of his sentences these days. For example:

Lucas: "Mommy, I want the balloon."
Mommy: "Why did you hit it down the steps?"
Lucas: "Because I want it."

Lucas is also discovering the extensive possibilities of "Why?". He had started asking "Why?" a couple of months ago, but it is now getting to be one of his favorite responses. Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Megan's First Steps

It was a busy night for Megan. First, she found out she can walk a few steps (about 5-6) by herself and even pause in the middle to look around. Then she found out she could start in the middle of the room! Unfortunately, most of her walking ends in a dive toward whoever she is walking to. Here's a clip of her new abilities (sorry it's short, but it's hard to video and catch at the same time).

Megan's 12-Month Stats

Height: 29 inches

Weight: 23 lbs 4 oz








As I'm sure everyone guessed, Megan is doing great. She is now walking while holding just one hand and can stand for several seconds before realizing what she is doing and sitting down.


We did find out, however, that it's a good thing we hadn't turned her carseat around yet. Apparently, the new recommendation (though it isn't the law ... yet) is to keep children rear-facing until they are two. We were told this is true even if their knees are touching their chin.

Megan also did pretty well at her 1-year photos ... at least well enough for us to get some good shots (though, I must say, it wasn't her happiest time, but we did get lucky). The pictures in this post are the raw images of the poses we picked (though some were part of a collage, so we only have the one copy).
