Megan's 8-Month Stats

Height: 26 7/8 inches

Weight: 20 lbs 0 oz


Wow, 20 lbs on the nose ... quite impressive. And for those of you wondering why Megan didn't grow any taller over the last two months, allow me to describe to you the measuring process ... Megan lays down on the examining table. The nurse pulls out her measuring tool ... a wood slide with hinges on either end. Mommy is in charge of the head; the nurse is in charge of the feet. The goal is for both people to get the baby to lay straight and stretch out and hold the hinges at right angles ... all while the baby wiggles to be free. The nurse actually took a second measurement, but Megan was annoyed enough at that time that we couldn't stretch her and she actually got shorter compared to last time. Very precise stuff.

A Weekend of Recovery

Well, it was an interesting weekend. Here's the day-by-day play-by-play ...

Aunt Barb came up for the weekend to help and Megan had a good time hanging out with her all day Thursday. Mommy, Daddy and Lucas were fortunate enough to get home early enough Thursday to see Megan for a little bit before she went to bed.

Megan managed to catch the same bug Daddy had on Wednesday ... so when Mommy checked on Megan Friday morning, she notice that the little one had apparently gotten sick overnight. Megan got sick a few more times that day and wasn't quite herself all weekend. She did, however, manage to work on her crawling skills and got up on all fours!

Lucas acted mostly normal on Friday, but he apparently overdid the jello at the hospital and hasn't eaten a bite since we got home (too bad we made two huge batches for him). He must have overdone the popsicles, too, because he's only eaten one of those since Thursday. He did start Friday off with one of his favorites ... oatmeal (aka oat-e-moat), so that probably helped him.


Lucas got a little more irritable on Saturday ... he didn't want to take his medicine any more (forcing medicine on a 2-year-old is not fun!), but changed his mind after a couple of forced attempts. The winning method was to put the medicine in a measuring cup, then give it to him via a dropper. It was different, so I guess that made it more "fun".


Apparently Daddy/Megan's bug has a 2-day incubation period, because Aunt Barb got it Sunday morning ... and didn't end up going home until Monday in the wee hours of the morning. Too bad we thanked her for all of her help by getting her sick. :(

Whew, I think that covers the major highlights (and lowlights). Thanks again to Aunt Barb for all of her help ... it was greatly appreciated!!!

No More Adenoids/Tonsils

Today started very early ... Mommy and Daddy got up at 4am to make sure Lucas got to Children's Memorial Hospital on time. Lucas actually stayed awake for most of the drive, and we arrived at the hospital at 6:30am. Lucas did pretty well, all things considered. After having the wristband on for a bit, he decided he didn't like it and was really upset about it. He also wasn't a fan of the shot they gave him to make him loopy (who would be?!?). The shot worked, though, and he wasn't even phased when they took him away.

After surgery, Lucas just wanted to be held ... so he slept off and on on top of Mommy for a while. He became a little more alert a couple of hours later and eventually decided to have some jello. Another nap, and then we went to visit the play area. They even have Lucas's kitchen there!



According to the nurses, Lucas needed to consume 12 or so ounces of fluid before they would allow him to leave. They normally keep kids overnight to make sure they are well hydrated when they leave. By the time we left the hospital at 6:30pm, Lucas had eaten no less than 12 jellos, 3 popsicles and some juice ... no hydration problems there.


He had his moments, but overall Lucas did an awesome job ... Mommy and Daddy are very proud of him!

Sunday was such a beautiful day, we all went for a walk. Lucas was even kind enough to cut all the grass on the sidewalk!

A pre-adenotonsillectomy Hurrah

As Heather put it, "Alicia and Lucas can have a squealing contest like they usually do and give those tonsils once last workout." She was quite right. We setup a sudo-obstacle course for the kiddies, which they had fun with for about 10 minutes. The rest of the time was spend running around like crazy people, dancing, reading, or whatever other idea popped into their little heads.


Megan got a cool new quilt from Tomi. Now she won't have to borrow Lucas's quilt any more.

Lucas got a cool quilt made by Tomi with help from Alicia, Carl and the rest of his Galileo class at school! It seems that Alicia and Carl were unable to meet the workshop demands of coloring in all the white squares and sent for reinforcements. :) Lucas is already calling it his "friend blanket" and loves to point out all the Cookie Monsters on it.

Mmm ... Fabric

This girl loves fabric!

Her preference now is fabric, then thumb. She sucks on her cloth diapers for so long that they are sopping wet ... eeewwww!

Lucas's 2 1/2 - Year Stats

Lucas had his 2 1/2 year checkup today and he's doing great! We had to fill out a survey about his developmental level and the doctor was impressed with our answers. Go Lucas! As a sign of his mental development, he's started asking "Why?" when we tell him something. He'd been asking "What that is?" and "What he doin?" a lot, so I guess "Why?" was the next logical step.

Weight: 35 1/2 lbs




In addition to his regular checkup, today was also his pre-op checkup ... all went well and we are ready to go for next Thursday.

Visitors from Cincinnati

We had lots of visitors from Cincinnati this weekend! Lucas and Megan had a blast with Aunt Barb and Grandma and Grandpa Suttmann.




Lucas demonstrated his ability to fix things with all his tools and Megan showed off her ability to sit. Both were full of smiles the whole time ... and made our visitors smiley, too.



It was even warm (and dry!) enough to play outside one day. And Megan helped Aunt Barb(ie) copy some tasty recipes. And don't forget the yummy cupcakes in honor of Barb's upcoming birthday!

Megan's First Tooth!

No more toothless grin for Megan! She cut her first tooth today!
